What is Access to Work (AtW)?
Access to Work (AtW) is a government-funded scheme that provides practical support to disabled people and those with a physical or mental health condition to help them start, stay in, or return to work. The scheme is designed to remove workplace barriers by funding reasonable adjustments and specialist support that go beyond what an employer is legally required to provide. Access to Work is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.

Who is AtW Support For?
You may be eligible for Access to Work if you:
-
Are aged 16 or over
-
Live in England, Scotland or Wales (Access to Work does not cover Northern Ireland)
-
Have a disability or physical or mental health condition that means you need support to do your job (or to attend an interview)
-
Are in, or about to start, paid work (including self-employment), or you have a paid job/apprenticeship interview (for interview communication support)
Access to Work support is based on your needs and the barriers you face at work, rather than your income.

How the AtW Process Works
1. Apply
You (or someone supporting you) apply directly to Access to Work through GOV.UK. You can apply online or by phone once you’re in work, about to start a job, self-employed, or have a job interview.
2. Attend Needs Assessment
An Access to Work assessor will contact you to discuss your role, your workplace, and the barriers you experience. You’ll talk through what support could help and may be asked to provide quotes from suitable support providers. Our rates are listed on 'Rates and Capacity' page.
3. Receive Award Letter
Access to Work will confirm what support has been approved and how it will be funded. You’ll receive a support award letter outlining what can be put in place.
4. Arrange Your Support
Once support is approved, if Onyx Support is listed as your Access to Work provider, you will need to contact us. We then work with you and your employer to put everything in place and get support started.
